Former editor in chief of Time Out Lisbon, I am a Portuguese journalist and writer that used to cover politics for a major daily newspaper but then got hooked by food and became a restaurant critic. Nowadays, when I am not skating, surfing or writing, I might be found in a food market or in a restaurant. My blog it's called O Homem que Comia Tudo (The Man Who Ate Everything), but no worries, you won't be eating bugs (unless you ask for them). Ils parlent de leur expérience chez Ricardo
This was my first experience of EatWith and it was a fantastic one! I booked to cook with Ricardo for my sister Lucy's birthday and we couldn't have asked for a better host to prepare and share a meal with. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, conversation never stopped flowing. Ricardo explained where each ingredient was from to show us how fresh and local everything was. He was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for local cuisine was infectious. We enjoyed helping prepare the Caldereira, whilst sampling delicious appetisers and some great wine. Ricardo was excellent company and we had a wonderful afternoon at his home - by the end we felt like old friends! Ricardo also gave us some great advice on things to do and see in Lisbon which we will definitely be making the most of on our next trip. Obrigada Ricardo! Clare & lucy x

Ricardo’s cooking lesson was a hightlight of our time in Lisbon. In effect, we were guests in his modern-style beautiful home for 3 hours where he introduced us to Portuguese wines (red and white), artisanal beers, duck croquettes, a variety of hard to get cheeses, and olives -- and that was just the start! We sat on one side of his kitchen counter with our wine and beer as he, on the other side, he showed us how to cook a typical Portuguese fish stew with the freshest of fish, wine, herbs, piri-piri and other easily available ingredients. While the stew was cooking, Ricardo, a journalist, surfer and restaurant critique, answered our questions about Portugal and shared some of his adventures around the world. An hour later and dinner was ready accompanied with bread, more wine and pastel de natas for dessert. Too soon it was time to leave but we took with us with fond memories of our time with Ricardo and a recipe we will feature for guests back at our home that will bring back fond memories of our time in Lisbon. It was a perfect evening with a most gracious host...a must do on your list of best gastronomic experiences here in Lisbon!

Ricardo was a fantastic host. His home was comfortable and relaxed. It was so nice to talk and enjoy an afternoon of learning to cook a traditional Portuguese dish (caldeira). The hints and tips were great with Ricardo explaining the "why" behind what we were doing. If you're looking to experience fresh local food, I recommend signing up for Ricardo's class.
